So you have an amazing course or ebook you want to sell? You’ve spent months putting it all together and you’re finally ready to launch. What are the essentials to a successful sales page so that you convert readers into customers?
Below I will go into the details of what has worked super well on my sales page. I continue to tweak it and improve it. Every single word has been carefully selected to help move my reader from an browser to a paying customer.
In less than two months I have sold over 100 copies of Blog by Number, every busy moms’ ultimate guide to starting a blog.
Hit on a Pain Point
Hopefully you have done your research before you invested months of time working on product. So I am sure you know that any product you create must solve a problem. Hit on that problem as the first thing on your sales page. Let your audience know you have the solution to their pain point.
The problem I solved with Blog by Number was that so many moms want to start blogs, but they do not have time. In my ebook I have numerous templates, resources and time saving tips to help moms get started quickly. It’s not a sea of text, it’s actionable, quick and implementable advice.
It’s subtle but it causes people to take action. It’s the word ‘because’. We have been influenced from childhood to expect a good reason following that power word.
So take this quick tip and use that word wisely, give strong reasons following it, and convert more sales.
This is such an essential part of a powerful sales page that converts readers into buyers. It is a must that you include reviews of your product from users. And bonus if those reviews are by influential people in your niche.
Give away a few free copies of your product to get reviews in the beginning and include them on your sales page.
Think about it, you probably do this too. You scrolll to the bottom of the Amazon page and read all the reviews before purchasing the product. Reviews are powerful and help create a strong sales page; they give you authority.

Show Them the Product
Shoppers today go to Best Buy to touch and feel the product. Then they go home to read the reviews on Amazon and finally hit buy.
How do you use this to your advantage? How do you allow your customers to preview your product before they buy?
Include a few examples of your ebook or course. Let them download a few pages to see what it looks like or offer a few lessons from your course for free! If you collect their email address in the process and they do not buy immediately, you can always try to convert them again later.
Make It Easy
Many potential customers abandon their shopping carts because they are surprised and confused by the checkout process. You want this process to be as straight forward and as hassle free as possible.
On my sales page I included a process map of what steps will happen after the reader clicks ‘Buy It!’. I wanted to eliminate any surprises so that when they see the PayPal checkout page, they feel comfortable and secure.

Remember to solve a pain point, include amazing customer reviews, user powerful language, show the customer your product and make the checkout process easy.

Mommy bloggers often get a bad rap among entrepreneurs and other professionals.
They’re not taken seriously as business women, and are mostly seen as women who sit around blogging about crafts and kids and their daily lives. Sure, they may earn a few bucks on the side doing it, but blogging isn’t a “real job” and mom bloggers aren’t “real” business women.
I asked 10 successful mom bloggers – all making a full-time income or more – to share how they make a living with their blogs and what advice they’d give to other moms who may be considering blogging as a way to make real money from home.
By reading about how they got started and where they are today, hopefully some light will be shed on the fact that mom bloggers are as serious, dedicated and hard-working business women as those that work in an office 9-5.
Here’s what these mompreneurs had to share about their blogging businesses.
“I love that the potential income with blogging is unlimited. You can work as little or as much as you want and for a mom of four, like myself, I love the flexibility that provides.”
Mandy’s advice to other moms:
“Just like any kind of job, blogging is work and it takes effort and time before you will see results. If you are a “get rich quick” kind of person then blogging may not be for you.
But, if you are patient, consistent and build your brand strategically then, over time, you will start to see the benefits. I worked for almost 3 years building a community through my blog and did not make $1. It takes time and patience.
You have to be willing to put in the work and hustle just like you would at any high paying job.”
“I do earn a full time income from my blog. The majority of my income comes from ads on my blog and also sponsored post work that I do working with various brands.”
Leigh Anne’s advice to other moms:
“My one tip would be to remember, it takes time. Blogging is definitely not a get rich, overnight scheme!
I have been blogging for almost nine years (four years as a full time blogger), and it took me six years to make what would be considered a full time income.
And a second tip would be – be consistent. Decide a level at which you can work at and then do it consistently. If you can’t do it consistently then change it. If it is only one post a week then make sure you always do one post a week.”
“I have been blogging for 6 years, and I have been making a full-time living doing so for the past three years. I earn money through sponsored posts, affiliate revenue and ad networks.”

Jen’s advice to other moms:
“Like any other career, blogging isn’t easy. I think a lot of people get into blogging because they think it is easy/quick money. It is definitely not that.
However, for people who are willing to dedicate the time and hustle, blogging can be extremely rewarding — and not just for the money. I love what I do, and I love the satisfaction of knowing I built something myself that has become successful.
I have also had opportunities for myself and my family that we would have never experienced had it not been for the doors open by my blog.
So, my advice is that if you love to write and create content and you are willing to put in the time and effort, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it — even yourself!”
“For people who are willing to dedicate the time and hustle, blogging can be extremely rewarding — and not just for the money. I love what I do, and I love the satisfaction of knowing I built something myself that has become successful. ”

“I make an income a number of ways. The most passive is advertisements. The ads are based on how much traffic comes to my blog.
I also make money from sponsored posts. These posts could be on the blog, or even on social media. The challenge with sponsored content is if you do too much of it, you lose trust with your readers, which ultimately hurts you much more in the long run.
My most lucrative income source is an online budgeting program I designed and built, BudgetBootCamp.com. I was aiming for 20 pre-orders, and at the end of 5 days had over 300, which equated to over $30,000 in 5 days (with very little overhead).”
Jordan’s advice to other moms:
“My number one piece of advice is to find what makes YOU unique. What will make you stand out in a sea of millions of blogs?
Many bloggers grab on to the “lifestyle” angle, because it allows them to blog about anything they want. I recommend finding a niche, and sitting pretty in that pocket! You like fashion? Maybe your angle is “mom-appropriate fashion”, or “Fashion under $50” or “Mix and Match fashion”. You like crafting? Maybe your angle is “15-minute crafts” or “kid-friendly crafts” or “weekend crafts – projects that can be completed in 48 hours”.
Find an angle and niche and become the go-to expert in that area and you’ll find success, regardless of how “big” your blog is!”
“I started making a full-time income from my blog about a year ago. It fully supports my family of five, which is an incredible feeling!
Right now I make money from three sources: ads, sponsored posts and affiliate income.
Within the next 6 months, I plan on developing products such as ebooks and online courses; which will be another income source.”
Julie’s advice to other moms:
“My biggest tip would be to start this journey with confidence. If you think you can’t do it or keep telling yourself you can’t, then you won’t! Those negative thoughts will take over during the hard days (which there will be hard days) and will hold you back from your true potential.
Connect with another blogger or woman in business and keep each other accountable. You’ll need someone to walk through the bad days with you and celebrate the fantastic ones.”

“Once my blogging income became enough that it covered my previous income as well as my husband’s income, we made the decision to work together on the blog, full time. He resigned from his job and he has been working as the finance manager, for my blog, for almost two years.
He also started a blog for fathers called Your Modern Dad. Together, our business continues to steadily grow and not a moment goes by where we are not grateful.”
Becky’s advice to other moms:
“I would say to remember three things…
1). Use an image to draw your reader in.
2). Use your writing to keep them there.
3). Use a newsletter to bring them back again & again.
These are all things that should be put into place from the very beginning.”
“I make an income through ad sales, affiliate marketing and I have my own prenatal class as well as a couple of other books (one due out any day). I also write sponsored posts for companies that I find to be a good fit with my company.
I’d love to sell more of my own products, which so far has lead me to decrease the number of ads that I have on my site. So far it has helped all of my sales, including affiliate sales!”
Hilary’s advice to other moms:
“It is totally possible. Stop thinking that it’s not possible. BUT, you might have to change and get out of your comfort zone to make it possible.
You will likely need to kick your images up a notch, as well as put yourself out there to some companies in a way that might make you uncomfortable.
But I truly believe that if you really enjoy blogging it will show and you will build a readership and income base. Believe in yourself, and be willing to change what you need to.”
“Once my blogging income became enough that it covered my previous income as well as my husband’s income, we made the decision to work together on the blog, full time. He resigned from his job and he has been working as the finance manager, for my blog, for almost two years.” – Becky Mansfield, Your Modern Family
“Most of my income now comes from affiliate sales. I’ve been very blessed to partner and work directly with a couple great companies that I wholeheartedly use and personally and believe in.
Next would be product sales and ads income. I have several books on Amazon that do quite well for me and it’s a passion of mine. My goal is to have at least 20 books on Amazon within the next 2 years.”
Sarah’s advice to other moms:
“I would say that we all start in the same place. When I first started blogging, I had no clue anyone would actually listen to ME. I didn’t think what I had to say, was anything special or unique, but people ate it up like candy. I’m no different from you or anyone else…
…I am completely myself and it simply attracts some and dispels others. The readers it attracts, I find ways to serve. It’s not really a complicated concept. Just be yourself and DO NOT give up!
Eventually, you’ll find that ONE thing, that one key, that makes you fly. For me, it was blogging”
“There are a million blogs out there already that talk about what I talk about… why would anyone listen to me?”.
“No matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to get enough traffic to my blog.”
“Everyone’s talking about growing your email list, but where and how do I even start?”
Have any of these questions ever crossed your mind? When you’re starting a new blog, getting readers and subscribers can feel like an uphill battle. And becoming a blogger that your readers trust and turn to as the “go to” source on your topic? That can feel nearly impossible.
But is doesn’t have to be.
There’s no magic pill for blog popularity
I’ll be the first to tell you that there’s no easy street to growing your blog, but there certainly are smart strategies and shortcuts you can take along the way that can help you get there faster.
If you hang out in any blogging forums or Facebook groups, you may have heard a disappointed blogger or two saying that “guest posting doesn’t work” for getting traffic and growing your blog.
But if that’s really true, then no one told Meera about it. She’s been able to establish authority in her niche and grow her blog in a big way in just 4 months… by guest blogging.

Don’t waste time guest posting for sites and getting nothing in return for your blog! Here’s Meera’s magic criteria for choosing guest posting opportunities that will actually work for growing your own blog. Be sure to also download her email pitch template to make pitching those guest posts a breeze!
Criteria #1: Choose blogs where your target audience is hanging out
Use Alexa.com to view demographic information for that blog’s visitors to see if it’s a match for what you want. Also make sure the blog gets a decent amount of engagement (comments) and social shares.
Criteria #2: Choose blogs that will build your overall credibility
Getting traffic and subscribers is great, but another goal of guest posting is to establish your own credibility. Pitch blogs that your readers will recognize in order to build trust.
Criteria #3: Choose blogs that will give you an “in” with larger blogs
When starting out, you may not be able to land a hugely popular blog. Start with “micro influencers” and work your way up, name dropping these along the way.
As we’ve learned, not all guest posting opportunities are created equal, and you need to be picky about where you spend your time writing if you want it to have a real impact on the growth of your blog.
But once you land that golden guest posting op, how do you make the most of it? Here are Meera’s tips:
1. Author bio: Use 1-2 links max (even if they let you have more). Giving too many links will overwhelm your readers.
2. Linking strategy: Instead of linking to your blog home page or social media, link straight to an opt-in page with a free content upgrade relevant to the your post. This will ensure that casual readers become subscribers!
3. Welcome email: Don’t leave your new subscribers hanging! Be sure to follow up with an effective welcome email series that will help build that relationship right from the start (be sure to see Meera’s bio below for help with this).

Not because I’m picking on you, but because statistically, the majority of moms who blog make little to no income from their blogs month after month.
When you consider the fact that many moms start blogging with the purpose of bringing in more money to their household, that paints a pretty unfortunate picture.
If you’re a new mom blogger that’s struggling to grow your blog or turn a profit, I’ve got news for you: There’s a reason for it. Or more accurately, there are 11 reasons.
These 11 blog-killing mistakes are why most mom bloggers fail, and they surface again and again with the moms I work with who are trying to grow their blog.
Let’s call the out, one-by-one:
1. You Waste Time on Things That Don’t Matter
We’ve all done it. You sit down at your computer with the intention of getting productive work done, but instead, spend countless hours posting on social media (without a plan) and tweaking your blog design to make it “perfect”.
You’re doing things that you think you should do, or that other people have said you should do… but you know what you’re not doing?
One single thing to help your blog grow or make money. You need to make a blog plan and WORK THE PLAN every time you sit down to blog.
Pro Mom Blogger Insight: “Time is the most valuable resource we have. The key is to intentionally set time on your calendar, and dedicate this time specifically to your blog growth.”

2. You Don’t Have a Real Work Schedule
There’s a notion among many moms that’s actually working against you: blogging “during naptime”.
After all, we’re busy moms with no extra time to dedicate to our blog, right? Let’s cram some work in while the kids are napping, or playing, or watching TV, or fill-in-the-blank. But that’s a slippery slope.
If you have a one or two babies who are on the same nap schedule and no other kids, then I can see how this might work. Heck, it used to work for me for a season after my first son was born.
But you know how frustrating it is when baby wakes up early from her nap and the boys come wailing to you to settle a fight and you haven’t even gotten a load of laundry in yet. You get frustrated with them for “interrupting” you and you get frustrated with yourself for getting frustrated with them. Frustration all around. And you didn’t even finish your blog post.
It’s crucial to set real working hours when you know you’ll be able to focus on blog tasks.
The ol’ Field of Dreams mantra, “If you build it, they will come”, is romantic and all, but it doesn’t work for blogging.
You can write epic post after epic post, but if you don’t have a solid plan to drive traffic to your blog, get email subscribers, and earn money, then your blog is going to be a ghost town with no readers, no comments and no profits.
Pro Mom Blogger Insight: “As much as I wish I could say I don’t need money from my blog, I do. In order for me to be able to provide free, quality content, the blog needs to be thriving; it’s got to make money.”

4. Ads Are Your Only Monetization Strategy
I get it. You don’t want to come off as pushy or slimy or “salesy”. Neither do I.
But throwing Google ads up in your sidebar with a hope and a prayer isn’t going to cut it. Without a solid strategy for creating profitable content that helps your audience, your blog won’t be making life-changing income anytime soon.
You don’t have to be a salesperson to run a profitable blog; in fact, most popular blogs don’t feel “salesy” at all. Think about it: do your favorite blogs feel like they’re always trying to sell you something? Probably not.
Affiliate marketing is one of the most effective ways to monetize your blog in the beginning, and there’s no slime factor involved (if you do it right!).
5. You Don’t Know Who You Want to Serve
You started your blog because you had something to say. A message to share. Knowledge to bestow.
But who are you blogging for? Who, specifically, does your content serve? Who do you want to be a hero to?
Without identifying your target audience, you’re trying to be all things to all people. And that means your content is going to feel impersonal and generic. Not helpful, not inspiring, and not profitable.
Pro Mom Blogger Insight: “Mommy bloggers cover a variety of topics from parenting to saving money to political issues. In order to establish a blog others want to read (readership is one of the goals of a blog), one must first decide the voice that will be used.”

6. You Don’t Know How to Create Powerful, Shareable Content
When you blog about you without framing it to benefit them (your audience), you’re missing the mark.
In addition, if you’re writing blog posts like you wrote your high school and college essays, you’re doing it wrong. You need to write for the internet, and that requires a whole different set of rules.
7. You’re Trying to Do It All (At Once)
You’re trying to master Pinterest, and Twitter, and Facebook, and Instagram and the million other things that pull you in competing directions.
But in the wise words of Sweet Brown, “Ain’t nobody got time for that”.
And I get it. You hear about how great “x” thing is for driving traffic or getting email sign ups so you go after it. Your intentions are in the right place, but spreading yourself too thin is going to give you mediocre (or worse) results at a lot of things.
You need to get focused. Remember: WORK THE PLAN (see #1 and #3).
8. You Haven’t Set Specific Goals
We’ve all heard advice about the power of goal-setting, so I won’t beat this point into the ground. But I will ask you this:
Is your blog getting as much traffic or making as much money as you set out for 1 year ago?
If you can’t answer with a definitive “yes” or “no”, that means you haven’t set specific goals for your blog. And that’s the surest way for it to fail.
Pro Mom Blogger Insight: “I’m a fanatic about setting goals. Why? Without them, you have nothing that you’re aiming for. Goals give you passion, purpose, motivation, and drive. You wake up each day with intention: you have a plan and you have direction.”

9. You Haven’t Defined Your Deep “Why”
Why are you blogging? If you said, “To make money”, or “To chronicle my journey” or something similarly generic, then you haven’t delved deep enough into your specific motivation for why you started blogging in the first place.
And this is vitally important to the life of your blog. When things get hard, when you feel like giving up, when you doubt yourself, it’s your WHY that will keep you going. Without it, you’ll give up.
Is it so you can stay home with your kids without stressing about money? Is it so you can have fun family vacations and adventures? Is it so you can quit your 9-5 that you hate and work on something you love? Is it so you stop feeling financial stress and pressure every time the car breaks down, guests come to town, or the kids need new clothes?
When things get hard, when you feel like giving up, when you doubt yourself, it’s your WHY that will keep you going. Without it, you’ll give up.
Take a few minutes to write out your “why” and post it up somewhere near your workstation so you can look at it every day. I’m serious. Make a pretty printable of it in Canva or simply write it out on a piece of paper. But do it.

10. You Refuse To Invest In Yourself and Your Business
Yep, I just called your blog a “business”. Scary? That’s okay… do it anyway!
A common mistake newbie bloggers make is that they refuse to spend any money on their blog until it starts making money. And I completely understand and empathize with that – I’ve been there. If you’re on a tight budget, investing in your blog can seem like a big leap of faith.
But the sooner you start to see your blog as a business, you can start investing strategically in things that will save you time and help you progress much faster.
I love this article by Mariah Coz of Femtrepreneur where she talks about that shift in mindset:
“When I first started blogging I was afraid of making monetary investments, such as using a paid blog, because I was anxious I wouldn’t be able to make any money and wouldn’t be able to cover those expenses. Over time I’ve come to realize how even tiny little micro-investments in your business can add up to a big return (in profit, sanity, and time saved). Making micro-investments in yourself and your business can be a major factor in success.“
11. You Take In Too Much Random Advice (and Don’t Take Strategic Action)
This one is perhaps the biggest and most detrimental mistake of them all.
The information available online for free today is staggering. Thanks to the internet, you can learn how to do, create, or become pretty much anything in the world you want to like never before in human history.
But that abundance of information has one very unfortunate side-effect: it can paralyze your progress if you stay in consumption mode and never take action.
Just as Mariah mentioned how micro-investments can catapult your blog to new levels, so can micro-actions. Commit to yourself that for every new worthwhile thing you learn, you will immediately take action on it beforetaking in any new information.
You should block out time in your blog work schedule specifically dedicated to learning/training (at least 1-2 hours a week) so it doesn’t infect your productivity time (like writing posts or working on money-making projects).
Then, follow this rhythm: Learn, implement, learn, implement, learn, implement.Make that pattern a habit. Just make sure you follow a strategic growth and profit plan when you blog, instead of acting on every random unrelated piece of advice out there.
